Options and Choices.
Sat Oct 24, 2009 9:14:35 am
So I should have the option to move again once December rolls around. I know I really I haven't been back that long, but I never intended to stay. Five months is a long time, especially if every second is spent cursing your position.
Anyways, I am planning on moving to anywhere I can land a half decent job within the vicinity of a TESOL/TESL/TEFL Certificate Program--I am left with a lot of options and not much of a "plan."
So now I'll list the pros and cons of the cities I am looking into:
Washinton, D.C. #1 pick
Brooklyn, NY #2 pick
Chicago, IL #3 pick
Pittsburgh, PA #4 pick
San Francisco, CA #5 pick

| Friend just moved there: cheap housing and car. | "Capital Dining"=overpricing/bigoted idiots for bosses |
| Seemingly intelligent/professional atmosphere. | Lack of credentials on my part. |
| Get to "experience" NY: I hate sleep. | Poor job market. |
| People, everywhere. | Cost of housing/living. |
| Strangely affectionate "foodie" community. | No plausible availability of fresh seafood. |
| (I can't really think of another reason.) | I do not know anyone whom lives there. |
| Close. | I hate Pennsylvania. |
| I have lots of "friends" there. | Not pedestrian friendly. |
| Friend out there. | lol economy |
| Weather. | lol economy (again) |

On a sidenote: A co-worker gave me a funny look when I told her I don't like to use the chemical degreaser to cooking surfaces; I wasn't sure how to take the situation in that she was surprised I was able to clean a flattop using a little water and vinegar.

poor job market in NYC? damn.
jersey is cheaper than brooklyn, and the commute to manhattan can actually be shorter, depending on where you live.

New Jersey is like the Island of Misfit Toys, minus one bumble, plus six hundred thousand malls.

I have no idea what those acronyms mean, but I do live in San Francisco. My anecdotal opinion is that the California economy is only more terrible than the nation as a whole if you have a mortgage. Aside from that, every job market here is ridiculously competitive, I wouldn't move to this city without enough savings to last a year or a job already lined up.

I LOVE PHILLY!
Move overseas and teach there. They would LOVE to pay you a lot of money because of your credentials.
