Printer Weight Loss
Tue Nov 8, 2011 7:08:17 pm
I ordered an OKI B2200 printer last week. According to amazon.com, the product weight and shipping weight are both 17.8 pounds. I had made a mental note of this because I don't have a sturdy desk to put it on. A few days later, I received an email with an order status update that included UPS tracking information. The UPS page indicated that the shipping weight was 13.30 pounds. I received the printer yesterday and the UPS label indicates 14 pounds, and the box has "Box Weight: 7kgs (15.5 lbs)" printed on it. I don't have a scale, so I don't know how much this actually weighs.
I just noticed this and I was amused:
NOM

Also, I spilled a lot of toner on myself because I did not know that the blue switch on the toner cartridge opens it. I have installed hundreds of printers without ever encountering such a switch.

It is highly unusual, because that makes refilling of cartridges easy. Printer manufacturers usually try to prevent that because they make more profits from selling ink/toner than from selling the printer.

Hmm, yummy printer.

Isn't this a very old style of printer? can I ask what you need it for?

i looked it up and I think i'm getting it confused with something else. I used to work for a printer ink distributor and the model sounded familiar. In any case, I'm thinking it's people like you that allow them to still make money off ink. ;)

It will be used exclusively for printing invoices and coupons. My only requirements were low weight, laser, and Linux compatibility. This was the least expensive printer I could find that met those requirements.

Strangely familiar but not familiar enough. I might have seen it while falling asleep.

Well, I would assume the weight depends on how much toner is left in the cartridge and how much paper is in the printer. :)
