I need to go to NYC and become a stand-up comedian.
Don't ask me why, my brain keeps telling me to do this. It has been for the last two weeks on a nearly daily basis.
Not all the time.. just once a day this voice in my head.
It makes no sense at all.
None whatsoever.
I've never done anything at all on a stage, maybe a presentation or two. And sure, I may throw in a joke or two to soften up the crowd before I run them through the slides... but those ppl get payed to sit there and listen to me.
I also don't think I'm particularly funny, I have my moments. But I'd have to compile those moments for years, and even then I'd probably just end up with a random list of completely unrelated puns. Who'd sit and listen to that?
And why NYC?
Sure it makes sense to *NOT* go to LA because that's where all the stand up comedians go.
And they all have that idea for a sitcom.
And they all say they just have this job as a <insert below minimum wage crap job here> while it lands.
And they all know <insert famous person here> who really believe said script is unbelievably awesome.
Why the US at all. I love the country, don't get me wrong. At least there must be a reason why I've been there on vacation some 9 odd times. But I could also try the UK, for me it's much easier (and cheaper!) to just go there for a weekend and give it a shot.
And you know what... I think it's the same bloody voice that told me to start a bloody farm in Romania.

Try stand up comedy in your city first.

Dunno.. here there's nothing special about being a Dutch comedian. Everyone else is.
Seems to me it helps to have something that stands out from the rest.

I wasn't recommending it as a career. I was recommending it as a test to see if you like it and if you can do it well before traveling to New York to do it.Seems to me it helps to have something that stands out from the rest.

Good point.
I may actually do that.
