IDs/Avatars/Names 'n shit.

What are your criteria for them?
And for changing them?
Zap is basically the only ID I use that isn't based on my real name.
From my first days on usenet (before the world wide of web was world wide)
until now.
Whenever there's some new web service I first sign up with zap so I can freely tinker around.
Not so much for privacy or anything. Privacy is mostly an illusion.
But whenever I use my zap name it reminds me I'm on the intarwebs.
So what about you folk?
I know people who regularly come up with new IDs as some sort of a hobby... and seeing the names they sometimes come up with I must admit it's a nice hobby for some :-)

I create them based on books or television shows that I like.

I only really have two.

nucular_tomato started as a very stupid joke. nucular was a subtle stab at people who pronounce it wrong, and tomato was mostly just a word chosen at random although I'd been watching simpsons reruns (specifically, an episode where Lisa had grown a giant tomato, and Bart destroyed it). I only remember that because so many people asked me about it on OKC.
TheWaveMaker was born when I made a second account on OKC whose primary purpose was to move around the world so I could see more journals, when OKC decided that "anywhere" meant "within 50 miles". Someone had said "nucy's always making waves" so I called the second account "TheWaveMaker".
Most often, when I sign up to a new site, I use a variation of my pen name.

Any particular reason? (Other than the obvious one: to reflect your interest in them)

And you're still using them both?

I figured the tomato referred to tomato<->tomatoe ... guess the nucular steered me in that direction.

So there's no link whatsoever to the "Attack of the killer tomatoes" movies?
ZAP started out in life as my graffiti tag.. 25 was really because hotmail told me zap was already taken.
Elsewhere I've used unvollendete in reference to Schubert's 8th symphony. Not so much because I'm into that music, but due to a fascination about incomplete works. Nowadays it's mainly zap... much easier.

I have psychological issues with names that limits my creativity in creating them. This results in the need to copy them with only minor alterations. Copying them from people I know or places I have visited could lead to potential complications. This leaves me with few other sources beside television, movies, and books.
I will not be providing details regarding my psychological issues with names.

It's probably the geek in me that suddenly thinks of name mangler scripts.

That, and in your situation I'd probably geek out in finding obscure tv, movies and books as the source of my ID.

Well the one I use here is part of the one I use in okc. That one came from my Latin classes in high school. The other one is sort of based on my name and on how my first boyfriend used to call me: Lita. So I just added the x and that was my most common ID name. I still use it, but not too much.
