and also,

i love ramen noodles.

i have eaten them practically my whole life. i mostly eat the chicken flavored kind. i remember once upon a time i could find crab flavor in a certain store, but since moving, i have yet to find it again. i went through this phase as a teenager where i put old bay in it.... so frikin good, but now i think it's too salty, not that it doesnt still taste good, but i should probably start watching things like that.

where i come from we actually call it "oodles of noodles", i thought, as an adult, that it may only be a family thing until i saw an episode of...behind the music? or something like that, where they were talking about missy elliot and her "mob" and timbaland himself said 'i remember when we though 'oodles of noodles' taste like steak", after that i figured it may be an east coast thing.

my grandmother calls it "wig soup".... i think she got that term from a chinese restaurant? im not sure, but she was the queen at turning that stuff into legitimate soup, adding veg and meatballs and making it petty wholesome.

as a teen i remember i had to cook it with the soup in the cold water and the seasoning in the middle and when the bubbles were just right id flip it and mix it until it had the right feel, but i didnt like how much liquid was left and how diluted the seasoning was, and so i started cooking the noodles and putting that season mix into the bowl first, the noodles and water second and then i could control how much "flavor" i had.....most of the time i just ended up with no water because you needed all the flavor for the noodle who were cooked in unseasoned water.

i also remember getting high and smashing up the noodles in the packet and opening it, then pouring the season packet onto the dry noodles and shaking the bag..... very sophisticated munchy.

i very rarely eat the cup'o'noodles because they tend to be little more then snack sized and the veg almost never cooks all they way.

the past couple of years i tend to cook ramen in little water WITH the spice mix until the desired 'al dente' is reached...... give me those things soggy and they will get tossed in your face. sometimes i like adding broccoli and parmesan cheese or frozen peas.... maybe a little old bay when i feel nostalgic....

one day i noticed someone had mentioned they put eggs in their ramen...... HMmmm, i thought...... sounds interesting.... so i looked it up on youtube and followed along the way the people had showed....

boil water
put in ramen
put in egg(s)
cook 3 minutes
add seasoning
serve

it was okay, but the noodles were ending up soggy and coated in egg making them thick....

so i made adjustments

boil water(with seasoning)
put egg in seasoned water
cook egg until almost done
add noodles
cook til al dente

yummy yummy yumm.

i am proud to say that till this day i have yet to even look at the directions on the package.

i take my hat off to you ramen.

My kiddos loves the chicken ramen.

I haven't eaten it since I was with my exhusband. They make me puff up like the Stay Puft marshmallow man. Too much sodium for me.

I've always wanted to try this and maybe I shall. I kind of swore off ramen after eating it exclusively for about three years. XP

if you do, make the eggs first.... and because you cook the eggs in the seasoning it makes the eggs tastier

I am only familiar with Korean ramen and I did not know/eat them before 2002. As a student I ate those noodles a lot. Now not that often. If I do, I've been generally adding tiny pieces of potatos, onions and sometimes an egg. My husband adds all kind of things like carrots or tuna.

I think "oodles of noodles" used to be a brand, back in the day. Ramen noodles repackaged. I vaguely remember the commercials (i'm sure youtube has 'em, youtube has everything).

And yes, I also like eggs in my ramen! I cook the egg separately, I don't like how it comes out when I throw it into the water with the noodles.

I used to have a whole ramen cookbook! I should get it again, and have a whole fancy ramen seven-course dinner. ;]

cook the egg before you put the noodles in and....yumm, the egg gets all flavorful and doesnt stick to the noodles
