I really want to try this:
http://hackaday.com/2012/01/02/give-yourself-a-sixth-sense-on-the-cheap/
It would be a lot easier than getting the implants. Sadly I don't think I can really try it because I think it would interfere with instruments at work.

I thought about getting a magnetic ring to help me with shopping at the Asian supermarket in my neighborhood. Their pots and pans are not labelled. I wanted to be able to determine if they were steel or aluminum. I ended up buying online, so I didn't need the ring.

Won't your company pay for you to get a ruler tattoo? They'll save a small fortune on providing the old fashion ones.

Can't you just tape a magnet to your finger to get the sensation? I suspect its more hype than anything else.

They probably would, you should see the prices for stuff in the ****lab catalogue £9 for a 4 pack of AA batteries.
