More Tutoring
Sat Jan 14, 2012 6:32:34 pm
More bad news with regards to my mom's situation but I'm not going to share it as it has to do with her health.
I got another tutor job - for tonight at 8pm at this guy's house. He is taking physiology and he failed the lecture test, he has a lab test tonight. His class is online and he's allowed to use outside resources, which I guess could mean me. My mom is going to come with me. She's reading Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Hehe. He sounded like an older guy - like maybe 30's - not the typical college-aged student. He works at a hospital and has a 12 hour shift today which is why he can't take it until 8pm. He is Spanish and he's hard to understand but not as hard to understand as the other lady who was trying to low ball me. She never called me, by the way.
Anyway, I told him he lived a bit far and I was wondering if he would be willing to compensate me for last minute arrangements and travel. Maybe 45 an hour. He said that or he'd be willing to just pay me the money and not go through the system. I'm not sure, I'm not supposed to accept direct cash. But his test tonight is only a half hour and I'm not sure driving 22 miles round trip on a street I hate (I used to drive it daily) is worth 24 bucks (or less, if it only takes 30 minutes, I'd only get 60% of 20 bucks - 12 dollars). So I think I decided to charge him 50 bucks for an hour minimum, even if it only takes 30 minutes. After all, his hands are tied. He's very last minute. So I get 30 bucks tonight, grand total of 90 bucks in the last two days for 3.5 hours of work. Not bad, not bad.
Monday I am meeting with the Jewish girl at 9:30am, plan to get another 2.5 hours out of her and then I meet with her on Wednesday at 4pm, hoping for another 2.5 hours. That would give me 8.5 hours. When I tutor 20 hours, my cut increases 5% to 65%. When I tutor 40 hours, it increases another 5% to 70%. Then after 200 hours, it goes to 75%. After 400 hours, it goes to 80% and that's the highest I can get unless I get this 1000 reward points which is pretty hard to get. I have 30 reward points now. I get 100 if I get another tutor to sign up or 250 if I get a person who needs to be tutored to sign up. I get 20 for each reference by a new student I get. So, pretty impossible. If I get 1000 reward points, then I can get 5% increase.

This will be the first one - she doesn't trust the guy. She is reading that book about rape and shit.

I told him I will review the information with him and then help him with his exam. Yes.

I am very sorry to hear about your mother's health. Feel free to email me if you want to talk about it.
I hope you and the guy do well with the test tonight. I am glad your mom is going. You never know in this day and age...
