January Blues

I think I've found the cure...
For Christmas I bought tickets to separate shows for my nieces and nephew (along with one for myself and my daughter). The dates were spread through the weeks after the holidays and it's just been lovely having these treats to look forward to. We took the oldest niece to the Woman in Black, which I hadn't seen for about 20 years - the girls were appropriately chilled and couldn't sleep in their own rooms for about a week after. Job done.
Today, we are off to see Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker. An excuse to eat sweets and spend quality time with kids. I think I may have found a new tradition.

I'm glad you've found a solution -- sounds like a lovely one.
I don't know why, but I've never gotten into theatre. When I was living in France during grad school, I'd occasionally take the train to London and meet up with a friend who was CRAZY about it. We'd go to lots of really very well-done shows. And in NYC, I went sometimes.
I don't know what it is. Too theatrical, maybe. ;-)

Tealights work too. It's a Swedish tradition, I believe, to light lots of tealights when it gets dark.

Ohh I love the theatrics – my favourite bit is when they bound off stage after the applause. I've loved it since I was young. I used to say in my profile in The Other Place that my favourite thing was that moment of hush as the lights go down. Yum anticipation.

I completely understand that it's not for everyone :) I'm a good audience as my disbelief is very easily suspended. Where shall I take you this time in London?
