for grim
Sun Jan 22, 2012 9:22:58 pm

George Hastings, not a vagabond but a flaneur by profession, left his village one day with unexpected purpose, walking to the next town and then the next village down the road after that, seeking the answer to a question. He tapped again the small purse small wallet in his coat pocket after being passed on the gravelly road by a dutiful mule pulling along slowly a small empty wagon and a sleeping farmer under the canopy of trees. Most might think work on the road was scarce, but George, neatly dressed and congenially countenanced, received a number of offers for small jobs during his walking quest for knowledge. He was not quite certain why people offered work to a man of obvious wealth, but he enjoyed helping others and appreciated the extra coins in his purse as they paid for the meals and lodging at each new village to where he brought his question.

And the question is? We never really got to it, I guess in the spirit of one so disposed.

When my ex was writing his first published article (just before we started our relationship), I made fun of him for using the word "peripatetic." He got really upset with me. I thought it was pretentious.

I now think it's a perfectly fine word. It's like "itinerant" or "nomadic." But without the camping or poverty overtones.

If that was the question then poor George could have just Goggled it instead of asking a bunch of random farmers. Talk about a peripatetic solution to a problem.

Yes. All delicious and crunchy, a little sour to start, but actually super duper sweet and tasty. :D
