Clearly I'm bored
Mon Jan 23, 2012 7:10:46 am

I've been googling dead people! Found out my best friend from kindergarten's father died. I couldn't find much about it. I remember going to the beach when I was 5 or so with her family and he was wearing a banana hammock that you could see the outline of his penis and I remember being shocked (!) at how large it appeared. I thought it was a monster and I tried not to look directly at it but at the time that was sort of eye level. Her parents were split up and not very mutual - he was a pilot (or maybe a steward?) and he ended up with a stewardess. I remember her being pregnant - and a little google searching shows that she was a bit younger than my friend's mom - in '91 she was 22. Not weird for a 22 year old to have a baby but he already had two kids and an ex-wife by then, he was in his 30's.

I also googled my dad. He has a generic name. Was curious if there was anyone out there wondering whatever became of him. Nope. I found one death record for him and it was the incorrect date (it stated Nov 15th and he actually died November 21st). I don't think I will ever know any of my relatives on that side of the family.

And finally I googled my grandpa. I found this article about him. It made me chuckle - it captured him quite well. I was 2 months old when it was written. He continued to wear suspenders my whole life. His real name is Clinton Forrest "Bill" Hill and I guess he picked up the nickname from Bill Clinton? I'm not sure. My mom always called him CF as most people close to him did, and people not close to him called him Bill. I showed Grim where my g'pa was born and the street they renamed after him. I couldn't find anything about that beyond some old minutes from a city meeting in which one of my relatives insists on the signage being replaced.

So when do you get suspenders and a front loader for house calls?

There is a lawyer in Hong Kong with my father's name who is now chairman of a very large corporation.

There is also an accounting firm with my father's name. Coincidentally, he had been an accountant before becoming a chef.

I didn't know his name either. I was fb stalking her and saw a picture of him and under it said "I miss you" and I was like...wha? And same with her sister - old pictures of their father saying things like "miss you" and "I could cry". I tried googling for the obituary with no luck. I remembered her stepmom's name because it was odd to me and my friend always called her by her first name. I found the stepmom's twitter where in the description she said her husband recently passed away. Googling her name brought up one of those websites that associates you with people in the household - mostly based on the tax records, I think, and it associated her with him. So then I was able to find out what his name was and google his obituary. He died of cancer in 2009. Rough.

When my g'ma dies. But then it will be gold plated and it will explain what she does with her millions of dollars since she can't "afford" to help me with medical school, but I think that's mostly because she enjoys giving the government lots of money in taxes.

I was thinking, I should totally come back to Florida and woo your grandma. Now that I know where she lives, I could just happen to be passing by when she leaves and seduce her into marrying me. CHA-CHING!

Older people are strange in their ways and are is less about you than their own life experiences. I found mine odd at times, but understand where they were coming from and allowed them their beliefs. They do soften and many come around especially as they need help in old age.

My g'ma is turning 90 in a month.

She is worried about the inheritance tax when she dies (about 3 million) so she took out a life insurance policy 8 years ago. Every year, she pays $250,000. And I'd say she has another good 10 years in her.

I think if I ever become a multi-millionaire, I will spend that shit, rather than hoard it away. Especially if my kids/grandkids want to go to medical school. Or even just college. She makes about a million a year.

The last time I got bored online, I Googled myself and various additional search terms. Eventually I found the grave of someone with the same name as me who died in 1879.

Excellent stalking.
