San Francisco
Fri Jan 27, 2012 1:44:39 am

So I've been invited to stay in Sean's guest bedroom in SanFran.

I've never been to California, much less San Francisco. Very tempting. He said I just have to pay for the ticket and that's it. I have a free flight from American Airlines that will cover it. Thinking about going February 15th-22nd. I'd have to rearrange my tutoring schedule a bit but it's definitely plausible.

He thinks it'll help my depression.

But I have some reservations. I know my mom thinks it's not very smart because she thinks I should stay home and make money and inevitably, I'd have to spend some money. I'd also have to spend most of the time by myself and showing myself around.

I'm not sure what to do.

Who is Sean?
I blogged about him earlier around the first week of January. He made a reservation at a hotel without asking me. We talked it over and I told him I didn't feel comfortable. We remain as friends.

I remember the story but not the name.

It is such a cool city. You should go and enjoy yourself. I have only been once to visit a lover of mine. It was a lot of fun.

i'd invite you to the suburbs of detroit, but then you'd probably kill yourself.

It's an easy way to feel friendly with out being obligated to interact with someone.

Sure, you're totally invited to visit the suburbs of Detroit. You can even stay with joatmon for free, if you'd like.

Maybe I should invite her to a place that won't result in her suicide.

How about New York? Erdos would love for you to stay with him.

I can't believe how selfish the rest of you are being.

Also, if you can afford to travel, I'd do it. Obviously, make it clear ahead of time with him what your expectations are. But otherwise, go and live life.

Where is his guest room in San Francisco? Which district of the city?
I recommend making your way to Haight and Clayton. There is an awesome Victorian Punch Bar there that plays 80's music. It's called Hobson's Choice.
You can take the train. Get a day pass. The public transportation there will amaze you.
Also, if you're floating around on your own, grab some tea at the Japanese rose garden in Golden Gate park. It is sublime and relaxing.
You'll be there awhile, so go shopping at the Safeway in the Marina District. Alone. That grocery store is THE place to find new acquaintances.
Avoid the Wharf unless you have money to burn.
Head to Telegraph St across the Bay in Berkeley, if only to people watch. I think you can take BART.
Visiting Mission Delores is amazing. Take the tour. That was the closest I've ever come to accepting a god. I last visited it on October 17th, 1989 in the morning.
Buy and eat some sourdough. I prefer Boudin. They're on Geary, I think.
Drink Anchor Steam. Nothing fancy, just Anchor Steam... draft.
If you find yourself out at the beach, stop by the Pittsburgh Pub on 46th and Judah. Ask for the owner, Dan. Tell him that I give my regards. You'll have to mention the Coast Guard. Buy him a shot of whiskey, and send him my best. I'll make it up to you.

I saw Mission Delores last night on my walk home. It's huge! It was after 1am though.
