Blog-Stalk Confessions: Blowing my wad...
Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:00:49 pm
I need to decide how much I am willing/able to spend on my most wanted item on my comic book want list.
Once upon a time in 2007, a semi-popular artist was hired to draw a comic book series based on a cult tv show. He was only vaguely aware of the show's popularity. This artist, as many comic artists do, produced a limited edition sketchbook of his preliminary sketches for the series. Items like these are usually sold at conventions. Approximately 1,000 were made before he embarked on his first tour after the series premiered. They were reasonably priced at $20, and the artist did a head sketch for each purchaser. Having severely underestimated the popularity of the series, he sold out after a few shows. A majority of those books were purchased by rabid fans of the tv show, people who rarely touched comics and are probably mostly unaware of the huge collector market. These books became very hotly pursued items. When I met the artist for the first time, I asked him about it. He told me that he has not been to a show since selling out where at least 10-20 people don't ask him about that book. He eventually released other sketchbooks, and I have all of those.
I have not seen one of the first one up for sale in almost two years. The last time I saw one listed, it sold at about $75. Totally reasonable. The only reason I did not buy it then was (prepare to get all gooey and weepy) that I had a limited amount of money to spend and I got my then-girlfriend tickets to a broadway show she really wanted to see for her birthday instead. That was of course a huge mistake. (Kidding. Honest.)
Anyway, another one is now up for sale. It closes on Sunday, while I will be at my friend's house to watch the Super Bowl. I am usually the kind of person who sits obsessively at the computer (shocking, right?) and places my bid in the last minute, to keep from being the guy who drives the price too high. In this instance, I have no idea what the closing price will be and I will not be able to be at the computer. The range can really be anywhere from $50 to $500. So yeah. I need to decide what the most I want to pay for this is.
In other news... Chicken in Worcestershire sauce... Y/N?

Oh, and should it be chicken and broccoli, or just chicken?

Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:03:39 pm
Yes. It is good.

Good eatin' either way. I vote chicken and broccoli because veggies are good for you.
Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:05:37 pm
And I hope you can get it.

If the broccoli wasn't going with the chicken it'd be going in the stir fry.
Veggies are good, and good for you.

Oh, and I recommend removing the skin before adding the sauce. Otherwise the skin will soak up the sauce and it will be totally gross.

What kind of stir fry are you making?

When you two eat together, do you take the skin off and give it to him?

I used to like the skin, but then I discovered boneless, skinless chicken breasts, ate that for years, and now the skin disgusts me.

This is pretty much how our family unit ate growing up. My dad liked the skin and thighs/wings, I only liked the white meat and my mom preferred drumsticks.

You've always been racist?

I make a delicious skin-on, bone-in, garlic rosemary chicken with a mustard sauce. It's (I've been told) the best thing I make. I haven't made it in years, now that I think about it. With some roasted potatoes and asparagus (IT MAKES YOUR PEE STINK!).
