Meet ungrateful Daughter # 1.
My mom called me the other day to invite me to dinner at her house today. I told her that I was working and would stop by on my way home. My Sunday shift has always been 12-5, always as in almost 19 years always.
I show up at 5:30 as I always do on Sundays after work and Mom is just putting something into the oven which looked like scalloped potatoes which means there is ham involved. She looked surprised that I was "there so early?". Supper was going to be ready in a half hour which really means an hour.
No, I was not keen on leftover reheated chicken pot pie to hold me over. No, I could not wait an hour to eat. No, I was not interested in eating something I have never liked to eat and have said so every time it has been served to me in the past 40 years.
I came home and ate a tuna sandwich.

I was turned off pork when I was a kid after seeing a big smelly pig at a farm. I can choke down bacon because it is bacon but that is it.

My family owned pigs when I was a kid and it made me love pork even more. They would sometimes get out of their pen and we'd have to chase them down, and those little fuckers are HARD to catch! They're fast as hell and they can turn on a dime. These days I relish every bite of pork because in the back of my mind I'm remembering every time I had to CHASE one of the little bastards for a couple hours.
Revenge is sweet. And spicy, cause I like hot sauce.

I made roast pork with hoisin sauce last night for the bowl game. It was a very porky day all around.

Did you get all fancy and cut the crust off?
Furthermore: now I know what I'm having for lunch.

maybe she just lost track of time?
why couldn't you wait?
I've been going on job interviews pretty regularly since I was 30, and in my field they all follow the exact same pattern. And still, every time I go on one, my mom and sister ask me all the details of what's going to happen and react like they were hearing it for the first time. :-)why couldn't you wait?

She had not lost track of time.
why couldn't you wait?
I had not eaten since breakfast and had just put in another hellish shift at work where even grabbing a snack was out of the question.
