Verizon is getting aggressive
Sat Jun 19, 2010 5:02:45 pm

My contract with Verizon expired a few months ago, but I am still getting phone service from them. I had delayed on the renewal of my contract, because I wanted to see what new phones were going to get released, and because I was lazy. Now it's just procrastination. They called me twice today. No message was left, but I checked the number online. It's a number that their sales department uses. They typically contact me around once a month to try to sell me an upgrade/renewal, but this is the first time that they have done it twice in a single day.

Funny. I never allow that to happen.

How do you prevent it?

I update my plan before it expires. :-)

I like new phones. They're pretty.

My first cell phone was extremely reliable and also extremely basic. My second phone was fancy and died within a month. My third phone was even fancier and died in two weeks. I went back to simpler phones and they were reliable. My current phone was acquired 6 years ago. Verizon has the option to replace the phone for free every two years, but I haven't, because it has worked well. It is now physically deteriorating and needs replacement soon.

I got the fancy droid and I loooove it.

The only thing I don't like is the battery life.

I considered getting that until I discovered that Verizon requires an extra $29 per month for the data plan. They won't sell it to me if I get a cheaper data plan or none at all.

Yeah, most of their phones require at least a 10 dollar data plan.

I might still get it if I change my calling plan, but that is probably going to be a complicated operation that requires talking to a human.

I prefer to do the whole transaction online.

The way that they have things set up, I can only do it purely online if I pay the extra $29 per month. There is no option to reduce some other services to end up paying around the same.

It was apparently because their 10th anniversary sale was ending.

Mission accomplished. I ordered a phone with a $9.99 data plan and reduced the calling plan by $10.00. My monthly bill is going to be 1 cent less.
