Swallowing Air
Thu Jul 29, 2010 5:03:40 pm

It's a problem that I had a long time ago. I'm not sure when it went away or how, but it's back. When I eat, drink, or chew gum, I keep noticing extra air that is in my mouth and I'm obsessed with trying to avoid swallowing it. I'm not sure why I am so averse to swallowing air. It's easy to fix with a burp or fart if I swallow it, but something in me has a strong aversion to it. I'm not sure if it's a sign of digestive or psychological problems.

Aerophagia is apparently common for Tourette's Syndrome, schizophrenia, and epilepsy.

All of the solutions I have are either mostly ineffective or terrible ways to die. I advise you to ignore my advice on this matter.

I would still like to know what the advice is.

1- Eat all your meals in outer space.

2-Eat all your meals underwater.

3- fill your mouth with food, vacuum seal your face, chew, swallow, remove seal, repeat.

As I said, ignore those.

Do you remember how you got over it the first time? Did it just pass naturally?

Holy multipost. I need to stop obsessively clicking. Maybe if I use my laptop in outer space...

I have an old IBM laptop that is officially certified by NASA for use in space.

The problem with these suggestions, aside from the danger, is that they don't take into account the air that I exhale into my mouth. I have no idea why I have started to do this and I have to remind myself to not do it. This is actually the main source of excess air in my mouth.
