Missed Connection?
Wed Sep 29, 2010 5:57:40 am
While waiting for the train today, I saw an attractive woman on the other side of the platform. She noticed me looking at her and waved to me. I looked around to be sure that she wasn't waving at anyone else and waved back. We glanced at each other several times during the next few minutes, and she waved several more times.
Shortly before my train arrived, she took out a marker and started to write on a piece of paper while repeatedly glancing at me. I wondered if she was writing a message to me like in Signs, but the words were clearly not large enough. She did not show me what she wrote and waved one last time while I got on the train.
While the train moved away, I suddenly realized that she might have written down what was on my shirt. I was wearing a shirt with "blogstalk.com" on it. The text is fairly large and could have been read from across the station if her vision was decent. I was hoping that she would join and contact me, but she hasn't.

When was this?

Wed Sep 29, 2010 11:57:38 am
Possibilities I've come up with so far:
1) She thought you were attractive, so she waved. But she is shy, so she wanted to write you a message. Having no way of knowing when you would get off the train, she wracked her brain for a witty opening line. You departed before anything came to her, so all she could do was wave. She will return to the same train soon, in hopes of seeing you again.
2) She was a random crazy person. You are better off and safer for having missed this connection.
3) The connection was not missed. She was writing down the train number because she has a poor memory. She is now going to take the same train every night, follow you, learn your comings and goings, and in a few weeks you will come home and find her at your house, being appropriately creepy. If you take the red pill, you will probably live happily ever after.
4) She joined blogstalk, and is lurking.
5) She indeed wrote down the name of the site. When she typed in the URL, she discovered that she did not need to join in order to learn about you.
6) What she wrote had nothing to do with you. It was just some self-reminders or a to-do list. She waved and made eye contact repeatedly because she was hoping you would strike up a conversation with her. Since you did not, this connection and all its potential are lost forever. She was aware of this, and the departing wave was meant to mock you.

In item number one, change "got off the train" to "got on the train." I think.1) She thought you were attractive, so she waved. But she is shy, so she wanted to write you a message. Having no way of knowing when you would get off the train, she wracked her brain for a witty opening line. You departed before anything came to her, so all she could do was wave. 1,2, and 5 probable. 3 ♥. 4 not possible.
Re 6, the distance + noisiness of a train station made conversation extremely impractical.

oh 'today'. impatient Erdos. She'll eventually get to that piece of papper with the website name. eventually. it takes me time to to get to the notations of all the new songs I hear in a day, like a solid six hours.

You make notations for new songs that you hear?

Were you close enough to read the note if she had shown you? 1,2, and 5 probable. 3 ♥. 4 not possible.

I could have read it. The distance was four subway track widths.

Maybe she didn't know if you could read the note from that far away, so she waved hoping you would come closer. It sounds like she was enthusiastic, though, so maybe she'll take the same train again in hopes that she can actually talk to you next time.

Had you ever seen her before?

Coming closer would require stepping onto the train tracks. These are not ground level tracks. It's approximately a 4 foot drop with a highly electrified rail.

Not that I am aware of, but it's very possible. This happened in the train station closest to my home.

That makes me suspect a random crazy person, if she expected to make any contact and wasn't just being friendly.

Not necessarily. Maybe I was supposed to go upstairs and cross over to the other side to meet her.no image

What kind of notations do you make? Can you transcribe melodies by ear or do you just write lyrics from songs that have vocals?no image

Unfortunately the later. Though you are welcome to teach me the former if you have that skill.
