Blocking Future Charges
Wed Nov 10, 2010 1:16:34 am

My bank apparently does not allow me to block future credit/debit card charges unless the exact amount is known beforehand, and they charge $32 for 6 months of blocking if the amount is known.

Are you incurring charges for something you haven't purchased?

Hosting for this site is a recurring fee. The host that I just fled from is making cancellation very difficult even if I don't ask to get back my money. I had to contact the bank to block future charges from them.

Will you eventually be able to cancel your subscription to the previous host's service, or will you have to block their fees forever?

I'm hoping that they will cancel my service when they are unable to charge my card.

i hate the way banks do this. it's like once you give permission to someone, you can't ever stop the withdrawals.

It seems fundamentally wrong. If I send you a check, you can't redeposit it as many times as you want. I am especially bothered that they can block the charge if I give both the name of the recipient and the dollar amount, but they can't block it if I only give the recipient name.
