One of my secret projects has been discovered by a spam bot that is posting a lot of comments in a test blog. I had not checked on the site since August and now there are over 20,000 spam comments. The test site is configured to send me an email notification whenever a comment is made, but I have never received a notification for any comment, except for my own tests, until today. I received a few hundred email notifications overnight. I have not changed any code on the site, which means the change that occurred is in the mail system. I think that GMail may have been blocking them. More than half of the notifications are going into my spam section.

Can the problem be fixed?
This happens to me a lot on OkC. I'm supposed to receive email notifications for new messages and new journal comments, but I only receive notifications for maybe 90% of new messages and about half of the journal comments, and none for when a person adds me as a favorite and wants to let me know, which I would think would count as sending me a message . . . I mean, since it sends me a message when they let me know. :/

The problem is in GMail and not on my site. It's out of my control. For the OKC notifications, I would blame OKC only because they have so many bugs. I like the randomness of adding a link to a testosterone booster when a blog could be about anything.

Yeah, I tend to blame OkCupid for every problem I have on the Internet. *shrug*Maybe for the notifications you do get that end up in your spam folder, you could mark them as not spam and gmail will stop blocking them?

Are you left handed?
I should be, but my mother forced me to use my right hand. I am now semi-ambidextrous. I primarily write with my right hand, but I do most other things with my left hand that require some dexterity.Thu Dec 9, 2010 6:06:26 pm

GMail should not block spam at all. Spam messages should just go to the spam section.

How is a desk right-hand biased? I can flush a toilet with either hand. It's not that hard to cross over to the other side. It just requires a small turn in the waist. Many things are biased in that way. It requires slightly greater movement to use the left hand, but it's not impractical. They put the arm rest on the right side instead of the left. My friend insists this is why she has bad handwriting.
