Dream Log 01-10-11
Mon Jan 10, 2011 12:45:30 pm
I am inside an episode of Different Strokes. It begins with Arnold playing hide and seek with Willis. Arnold hides by riding underneath the elevator. He somehow manages to get out without incident when the elevator reaches the lower level.
We are on a cruise ship. At the lower level, we see the captain sitting at the controls. Mr. Drummond has taken Arnold here to give him a tour of the ship. Instead of disturbing the captain, they hang out in another room that has a computer and a lot of toxic chemicals. Mr. Drummond inspects various containers and explains to Arnold why he should not touch them.
When Arnold goes to the bathroom, Mr. Drummond speaks with the captain about the possibility of going to Coney Island. Although that is one of the planned destinations for the ship, Mr. Drummond had been planning to get off the ship before arriving there. The captain informs Mr. Drummond that the ship will arrive in 40 minutes. This leads to a change in plans that is kept as a surprise for Arnold.
Up until this point, I am just a spectator, although I am on the ship. The captain notices me and offers me a job teaching a balance class on the ship. I accept the job and start teaching, but the muscles in my lower back are very tight and I feel dizzy. I somehow force myself through the classes without anyone noticing my difficulties.
When we get off at Coney Island, I encounter my Canadian relatives. They had come to New York for vacation without informing me. We take some photos together, but I cannot accompany them for the rest of their New York vacation, because I now work on the ship.
The alarm awakens me.

It's a show about a wealthy elderly white man who adopts two black boys.

Oh, wow, so you were the token Asian in your own dream. That's messed up.

I wasn't his child in the dream. I was a non-interacting spectator during the part of the dream that focused on the show. My role is much closer to that of the television audience.

But you were not completely wrong. When I watched the show as a child, I often thought that I would prefer to have Mr. Drummond as my father.no image

I sometimes wished that Darth Vader was my father, because that would mean I was Luke and I was having all these awesome, exciting adventures and learning lightsaber combat and saving the galaxy.

What lessons are involved in a balance class? This seems like something people wouldn't need.

It involves a combination of practicing balance and learning proper biomechanics/posture for optimum balance. It is useful for elderly people to help them reduce the risk of falling.

So it's a real thing, not just something your subconscious made up for the dream?
