Dream Log 01-27-11
Thu Jan 27, 2011 3:10:23 pm
I am a ninja working for the American Museum of Natural History. My responsibility is to guard their experimental botany department. They have developed some plants that have potential to be used as bioterrorism weapons.
My sister visits the museum and I give her a special private tour which includes visiting top secret research labs. One of the projects that I show her is a genetically engineered species of Rhodiola which can grow on anything. It only needs sunlight and air. It can derive water from humidity in the air and it can grow on any material. The specimen that I show her is growing on a wall. We watch a video about this plant which includes time lapse photography of its growth. In one night, it can increase in mass by a factor of 8000.

"Natural History" [. . .] "experimental department." Why do I get the feeling it's not entirely dreamworld stuff?
Also, scary plant. Reminds me of Bushroot.

This could be the basis for a movie. Also, scary plant. Reminds me of Bushroot.
I never heard of Bushroot.

I doubt it would be a very good movie, though. I mean, it could be, but I don't think it would be. The premise is too similar to movies that have already been made: "government is doing stuff we don't know about and it has drastic consequences for us all." Only in this case, it's a mutant plant. :/
I'm not surprised in the least that you never heard of Bushroot. Doesn't really help that I didn't clarify: Second one down.

I have contemplated Bushroot's photosynthesis idea many times before.I'm not surprised in the least that you never heard of Bushroot. Doesn't really help that I didn't clarify: Second one down.

I didn't really think about the growing on people part of it. That could definitely work, but it'd have to be a horror movie. And I doubt it would involve ninjas.

Come up with anything plausible?

Yes, but it requires that we sleep a lot.

Or a better way to present the sleep thing.

I think most people would be okay with sleeping a lot.

They could sleep for 20 years hidden in the Amazon rainforest and come out to destroy all other humans.

I'd imagine if they slept for twenty years in the Amazon, they'd become food long before twenty years elapsed. On the other hand, if the experiment went awry, they might well BECOME the Amazon itself, in which case, yeah they'd probably destroy all humans.

They won't necessarily become food if they don't look like food. With green skin and long green unkempt body hairs, they would look more like some kind of weird plants, especially of they sleep in a sitting position. Although there are plenty of herbivores, most animals have highly specific dietary preferences and only eat plants of specific varieties. On the other hand, if the experiment went awry, they might well BECOME the Amazon itself, in which case, yeah they'd probably destroy all humans.
