Verizon Spam Filter
Fri Feb 11, 2011 4:44:35 pm

It seems that they did an unannounced upgrade which was probably the reason for my loss of internet service. Prior to this upgrade, I never had an outgoing message blocked by a spam filter. My first message since service was restored got blocked because the Verizon Spam Filter misidentified my message as spam. I'm not sure why. There were no links in my message and I did not mention any of the common spam topics.

I tried using a different non-Verizon SMTP server but access to it was blocked. I have not yet tried changing the port number.

Apparently, I cannot send replies that include a copy of the original message to which I'm replying. This is extremely stupid.

Can you turn off the spam filter?

No. It's a filter for outgoing messages, not for incoming messages. They have it on to protect them. It's not for my benefit. I do not have access to the control for that.

Maybe it was a fluke and they're still working out the bugs.

Possible. I hate the system that they have in place for dealing with it. I have to send a copy of any blocked message to their human reviewers to determine if it's legitimate or not. If they determine it's legitimate, they will adjust the filters to allow the message, and I have to resend it to the originally intended recipient. They will not tell me when/if they approve my message. Also, it's a complete violation of my privacy.
