Christmas decorations in a non-tourist area, three blocks from my former home.
Department of Highways facility across the street from my parents' home.
Empty train station at night. The trains run throughout the night, but passengers are not always present.
Critical Mass.
Playground reconstruction.
Free stuff left outside for anybody who may want it.
Weed grows on subway tracks that are seldom used.

It depends on where you are going. I mostly use buses in conjunction with trains. Buses are slower, but they cover more territory.
