Transcendental Breathing
Thu Jul 28, 2011 4:51:37 pm
I took a transformational breathing class last night after teaching a Krav Maga combatives class. It was really something. All sensations, poking, whispers and prodding, people were hyperventilating and hollering, I couldn't get anywhere near what I think of as a meditative state (the Ch'an tradition's more of a serene, controlled breathing affair), so I just stayed in the present, took it all in.
Couldn't quite find the rhythm of it, but I'm still really buzzed.

I think more than anything else, it created a safe space where people could really flip out and lose their shit (which is definitely of value for some folks). I've a highly controlled persona, so it didn't really happen for me (plus the group was VERY gendered, even for a yoga group), but it was still a really valuable space.
