Blog - Am I the only one who likes Anime?

I love anime, but I haven't watched in a few years. All of my favorites are several years old and probably obscure:
Angelic Layer
Aishiteruze Baby
Great Teacher Onizuka
Kokoro Library
Fruits Basket

There are more, but I can't remember right now.

I never developed an interest in manga. It just doesn't work for me. I read the text and glance too quickly over the illustrations. The two don't connect well in my mind and I feel like I never actually grasp the story that is being told.

i just love to read so maybe that's why i love to read them. I haven't read a whole lot but the stuff i have i really like. Good to know that there is some one else out there. :>

I like reading, but my brain can't mix printed images with mental images well. Pure text that is highly descriptive works for me. Nondescriptive text mixed with images doesn't work for me. I can't integrate to the two correctly. Anime gives me enough visual data to be immersive, but manga doesn't.

I haven't watched any vampire anime. I like the ones that have some emotional content. It's not necessarily romantic. For example, Kokoro Library is about a little girl who dreams about becoming a librarian. I know it sounds like a dumb concept, but the character is so emotionally involved in this dream that it's quite engrossing to watch.

I watched Macross and Doraemon when I was a kid, and Spirited away few years ago, and that's it.

I have the Spirited Away DVD.

I find myself somewhat conflicted when I find that I am watching anime: partly due to the mass genocide thing; partly due to the fact that I am feasibly entertained by bright colors and unnatural plot arcs; but I find it less reprehensible than watching the news or RL dramatization in that a handful of writers and animators will probably never make as much, in the entirety of their life, as many actors and anchors make in a year.

Then again, I hate everything.
