¿Habla Español?
Mon Sep 21, 2009 8:55:19 pm

As I was leaving for work this morning, a woman approached me and asked: "Anybody living here speak Spanish?". I said "no" and the man who was with her echoed my "no" and wrote something on a pad. It appeared that he was recording my answer. They then walked over to my neighbor's house and rang the doorbell. I have no idea what their intentions were.

That is an odd thing to do for curiosity. Maybe they were unemployed for a very long time and had nothing else better to do.
With people these days, there is really no telling...maybe they worked for a magazine, or newsletter, or something like that.

It's possible, but I would expect recording of audio instead of writing notes on a pad.

All the Mormons who recruit are dressed in black and wear a badge with "Elder" in front of their name.

"Elder" doesn't refer to their age. It's a status thing. They have to get to that status before they recruit.

Ok, I'm running out of ideas now...
Maybe they were just super bored and couldn't find anything else to do...

It really is...did you ask this question on Sodahead? I'm pretty sure people on there could give you some answers.

You would go around asking what languages strangers speak?

Interesting.
Maybe they were trying to find an Asian who spoke Spanish. Now THAT'S an amazing idea!

I studied Spanish for 8 years and had an A in Advanced Conversational Spanish in college, but I am very much out of practice now.
