Blog-Stalk Confessions: Multipost day...
Fri May 18, 2012 12:55:26 am
by the_grim_zipper
Just got back from basketball. It occurred to me after I got through playing that I probably shouldn't have, what with playing yesterday and having games tomorrow and saturday. Oh well, there's always sunday for rest.

In other news...

Whenever I see or hear the name 'Brooklyn Decker', it makes me want a sandwich. For the record and as hard as this is to believe, this is a non-pervy statement.

Also...

I was just reading a 'top 10 superhero movies of all time' list, and since I disagreed with most of it, I decided to make my own lists. Warning, some of these may contain spoilers.

GRIM'S 10 BEST COMIC BOOK MOVIES EVER-

10- Iron Man- This movie ranks higher on most other people's lists. But this is my list, and considering my personal dislike of the character, it's as high as I can place it.

9- Watchmen- This movie would be higher on my list if not for two or three scenes that I hated. Given the expectations and the time it took to bring this movie together, I thought Zack Snyder did a great job with it. He proved that the supposed unfilmable story could in fact be filmed. I still can't stand Rorschach's death scene though.

8- Road to Perdition- I considered going with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Hellboy here, but I really liked 'Road' and it was a very good graphic novel before it was a very good movie.

7- x-men- The first ensemble comic book movie that really worked. Some fans did not like the changes from the comic... I had no problem with it. I thought it was very well done.

6- Superman 2- KNEEL BEFORE ZOD, BITCHES. (and forget the amnesia kiss. *smooch*)

5- Kickass- A daring movie. One of the few times that a movie exceeds the source material. The cast was excellent. To paraphrase from a source I can't remember... " Nobody shoots a child quite like Nicolas Cage does."

4- Spider Man- Most people prefer spiderman 2. I prefer this one for a number of reasons. First, I am a big Willem Dafoe fan. Second, it was the first movie I ever saw in theaters, and it was a great experience. Third, it really started the trend of strong, quality comic book moviemaking. Oh, I also had a major crush on Kirsten Dunst back then.

3- Superman- Christopher Reeve. Gene Hackman. Glenn Ford. Ned Beatty. A bunch of memorable scenes. I almost cheer every time Superman catches Lois and the Helicopter. We just won't mention the 'spinning the earth backward' thing and we'll move on.

2- Dark Knight- Some traditionalists didn't love it, others say it's overrated due to Ledger's death... I obviously disagree. That was a Batman movie as it was meant to be. There has never been a better Joker outside of 'The Killing Joke', imo.

1- Avengers- I meant it when I said 'best comic book movie ever'.

GRIM'S 10 WORST COMIC BOOK MOVIES EVER-

10- Ghost Rider- I thought Nic Cage as Ghost Rider would be decent. I mean, dude looks like him already. Oh wells.

9- Jonah Hex- If I cared more about this movie's existence, it'd probably be higher on the list. Same goes for Green Lantern, btw.

8- Daredevil- Unlike most people who hated this movie, I had no problem with the cast. I thought it was actually really good casting. The script though... ugh. Worst thing of all the things ever.

7- Batman and Robin. Same complaint as with Daredevil, plus batnipples.

6- Elektra- Same as Daredevil. "Alias" already proved that Jennifer Garner could handle badass action roles. The blame lies with the screenwriters.

5- Fanastic Four 2- Galactus is a cloud. Right. Moving on.

4- Superman 4- Ugh. That is all.

3- The Spirit- Proving once again that Frank Miller should just go retire to swim in his boatloads of money already.

2- Punisher War Zone- This and the number 1 movie were the only two movies I have ever stopped watching less than a half hour in. No redeeming qualities at all. AT ALL.

1- Catwoman- There was nothing right with this movie.

GRIM'S 6 COMIC BOOK MOVIES HE WISHES HAD BEEN BETTER-

6- Superman Returns- Brandon Routh was never going to be better than Christoper Reeve. Kevin Spacey was a perfect Lex Luthor, but his henchmen were unextraordinary. And as much as I like Kate Bosworth, she didn't feel right as Lois Lane.

5- Fantastic Four- I didn't hate it, but there was a lot lacking.

4- Batman Forever- I liked the cast. This was where the Batman Franchise went south. They tried infusing comedy. Batman is not a comedy.

3- Spider-Man 3- Venom is one of the best villains in comics. The whole 'dancing peter parker' thing was actually one of the scenes I was most okay with in the movie. Most people hated it. I thought it fit well with the story. It was just Peter Parker acting like Spider Man, which was the point. A loss of self in the alter-ego. The rest of the script... meh.

2- X-Men First Class- I really wanted to like the reboot of the x-men franchise. I really did. But with crap like that, I just couldn't. I wonder if I will be saying the same thing about the Spider Man reboot soon.

1- Punisher- I like the actors in the movie. I thought they could have really made a franchise out of Punisher, but they were never able to balance the comedy with the tragedy in that movie. My expectations were high due mostly to the fact that Garth Ennis was absolutely killing it on Punisher at the time. He wrote the character better than anyone else.

Blog-Stalk Confessions: Black-eyed pee...

First, I need to explain. I am not awake right now. I am just in a state of temporary non-sleep. I am going to fix this in a few minutes.

I just went to pee, and noticed in the mirror that I have a black eye. I totally forgot that I took a great big elbow to the face at basketball yesterday.

That is all.

GOOD NIGHT FOR NOW.

Blog-Stalk Confessions: NY > NJ

The Regina Spektor show tonight was much better than the one I went to a few weeks ago. The one in NJ had mostly either really new or really old songs, and she didn't do a lot of audience interaction (which she is kind of known for.) Tonight was a lot more like the shows I'd seen of hers in the past. She played all the fan favorites along with the new stuff. If not for the fact that the lighting guy was having a little too much fun blinding the section of the audience I was in, it would have been a perfect evening.
